OUR STORY / EST. 2023

This started with reconnection.

We wanted it
to feel alive.

Orisha Worldwide began in 2023 because we wanted to create something we could not find around us.

A place where young Africans could approach culture, indigenous spirituality, creativity and alternative ways of seeing the world without feeling like they had wandered into either a museum lecture or somebody’s badly researched Twitter thread.

Young. Curious. Beautiful. Serious when it needed to be. Irreverent when it did not.

Most importantly, we wanted to make looking backwards feel compatible with moving forward.

Reconnection led to research. Research led to experiments. Experiments became products, exhibitions, technologies, travel, sound and community.

Eventually we realised we were not building a project. We were building an ecosystem.

We would like
a say in that.

Africa does not lack culture. We lack enough infrastructure for carrying some of our most valuable cultural knowledge safely into another century.

Elders die. Languages disappear. Objects leave their contexts. Oral knowledge gets thinner every generation.

And while all this is happening, somebody somewhere is busy designing the future we are supposed to inhabit.

More than a say, actually. We would like to make some of it ourselves.
