Àṣẹ
The Power to Make Happen
01 / INHERITANCE
Begin with the context.
Creative efficacy, authority and vital force associated with beings, substances, actions and utterance.
Place & variation
Yorùbá philosophical and devotional traditions in southwestern Nigeria and neighbouring communities. Accounts vary; no single formulation represents every lineage.
02 / SYSTEM — EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
Communication & memory.
Agency links words, substances, people and recognised authority.
This is the archive’s reading of a structure or relationship, not a claim that the tradition was designed as a modern technology.
03 / FUTURE — INHERITED FUTURES SPECULATION
What might an interface look like if responsibility travelled with every action?
Executable reality. The distinction between information existing and information actually causing change.
An artistic proposition to explore. Historical documentation does not establish the technological analogy.
04 / A CLOSER READING
A force is not a feature
The project begins with the idea that an action cannot be separated from the conditions that make it meaningful. Reading Àṣẹ through technology is useful only if it also raises questions about authority, consequence and responsibility.
Keep the analogy open
“Executable reality” is a speculative phrase used by Inherited Futures. It is not a literal translation of Àṣẹ, and it should not replace the concept’s place in language, art and devotional life.
