Egúngún
Ancestral Presence
01 / INHERITANCE
Begin with the context.
Masquerade traditions through which ancestors and lineage memory become socially present through costume, movement, sound and ritual.
Place & variation
Yorùbá masquerade and devotional communities. Local institutions govern participation and access.
02 / SYSTEM — EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
Presence & embodiment.
Regalia, movement, sound and community make ancestral presence perceptible.
This is the archive’s reading of a structure or relationship, not a claim that the tradition was designed as a modern technology.
03 / FUTURE — INHERITED FUTURES SPECULATION
How could a digital presence carry memory without pretending to replace an ancestor?
An ancestral archive given a temporary body.
An artistic proposition to explore. Historical documentation does not establish the technological analogy.
04 / A CLOSER READING
More than a costume
The project’s interest lies in presence as something made through relationships. A digital likeness alone cannot reproduce the community, history and ritual circumstances of an Egúngún encounter.
The connection to Agba
Agba is a contemporary digital masquerade experiment within Orisha Worldwide. It is presented as a creative project, not as an authenticated Egúngún ceremony or a replacement for living custodians of a tradition.
