Identity Through Recitation
01 / INHERITANCE
Begin with the context.
Praise poetry addressing individuals, lineages, towns and sacred beings; scholars have used it as historical evidence.
Place & variation
Yorùbá-speaking communities; language, performance and interpretation depend on local context.
02 / SYSTEM — EDITORIAL ANALYSIS
Identity & continuity.
Recitation places a person or community within a layered field of associations.
This is the archive’s reading of a structure or relationship, not a claim that the tradition was designed as a modern technology.
03 / FUTURE — INHERITED FUTURES SPECULATION
Could a profile hold contradiction, history and praise instead of a list of attributes?
Identity metadata carried by people rather than servers.
An artistic proposition to explore. Historical documentation does not establish the technological analogy.
04 / A CLOSER READING
Identity can be more than a field
A list of attributes offers a narrow picture of a person. Inherited Futures is interested in a different possibility: an interface that holds stories, places, contradictions and relationships without resolving them into a score.
Voices remain situated
An archive of praise cannot be detached from the people who voice it. Future recordings would need named contributors, context and appropriate permissions. This edition points to scholarship; it does not claim to contain a community’s oral archive.
